LIFE BY EXAMPLE
Read I Timothy 4 Apostasy in the Churches
Let no one despise your youth, but be an example to the believers in word, in conduct, in love, in spirit, in faith, in purity. (I Timothy 4:12 NKJV)
Paul left Timothy to care for the Church in Ephesus. As he was young and perhaps timid, Paul thus encourages him to be exemplary in these qualities as a spiritual young leader.
First in communication or words, avoiding the profane and idle babblings and contradictions of what is falsely called knowledge. (1Tim.6:20b) He who guards his mouth preserves his life, But he who opens wide his lips shall have destruction. (Proverbs 13:3) Whoever guards his mouth and tongue Keeps his soul from troubles. (Proverbs
Second, in conduct that expressed our heart's inclination in humility and servanthood. Let Christ be the Centre and the governing factor of our life-style, be it our standard of living, service or relationship.
Third, in charity or love without obligation and hypocrisy rendering practical ministry with the thought for others and wishing for their best. We will serve with joy and gladness relying on Gods strength when it is motivated by love. Not in empty word but in action
Fourth, in compulsion or spirit with the passion from within that's firm and steadfast in our worship, intimacy and partnership with God. With knowledge
Fifth, in confidence with faith, the hope and confidence of positive service and lifestyle of resting in God's sovereignty. Let faith be evidenced in our service, ministry, prayer, preaching and attitude. The closer or intimate one is to God, the stronger ones faith will be. This comes about by giving ourselves to the reading of His word and exercise of a good conscience. For faith to be alive - a life of prayer. For faith to be dynamic - exercise of spiritual gift (4:15). We need not be afraid even when we make mistake. Fight the good fight of faith (1:18; 6:12). Standing up for your faith
Finally, in purity - in thought and actions as the focus is on Christ. Whether be the area of motive or emotion there is sense of sacredness and holistic appreciation of God's creation. Paul told Timothy of treating younger men as brothers, older women as mothers, and younger women as sisters with absolute purity (1Tim.5:1-2).
Prayer: Lord You are my example and as I imitate and live You out, I will then be exemplary to others in speech, conduct, love, spirit, faith and purity
