PROMISE FULFILLED
Read Acts 1 The Ascension and the Mission
But you shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the end of the earth. (Acts 1:8 NKJV)
Jesus had promised of the coming of the He Holy Spirit in John 14-16 before His death. With His resurrection and at His ascension; He instructed the disciples to wait for the Holy Spirit in Jerusalem.
The result of receiving this promised Person of the Holy Spirit coming upon them would be their power to become witnesses of Jesus. The best training program for evangelism is of little effectiveness without the filling of the Holy Spirit. The power and phenomenon of the Holy Spirit is supernatural and spiritual. He acts through the obedience of the Word, faith and exaltation of the Lord.
As we read, we see how this key verse becomes an outline of the acts of the Holy Spirit. They begin their witness in Jerusalem where Jesus was executed at the word of an angry mob. in chapter 1-7. They were filled and led to the establishment of the Church. This comes with persecution with the martyrdom of Stephen.
The witness in Judea, which rejected His ministry and Samaria regarded as a wasteland of impure half-breeds in chapter 8 -12. The preaching of Philip in Samaria and conversions of an Ethiopian eunuch. The ministry of Peter in miracles of healing of Aeneas, raising of Dorcas and the conversion of Cornelius.
The witness to the end of the earth the Gentiles whom Jews considered as outcast in chapter 13- 28. Comprises mainly of Pauls three missionary journeys. Such power was evidence through the preaching that resulted the conversion. Contrast what the disciples were before and after Pentecost.
Prayer: Lord, Your Spirit is dwelling within me, the fruit and power I exercise thus comes from You that resulted others seeing You. Wherever You lead is where I will go.
