THE NEW COMMANDMENT
Read John 13 The Last Supper with Jesus
A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another. (John 13:34-35 NKJV)
A new commandment implies freshness, rather than recent or different. It isnt just invented, but is presented in a new and fresh way. It is not burdensome and legalistic. It is out of a new covenantal relation that is given to all Jesus disciples.
Through this covenantal relationship we are children of God, the same Father. We relate by praying one for another, bearing one another's burdens, forbearing and forgiving one another, admonishing each other, and building up one another in faith and holiness in oneness of the spirit.
Jesus showed us the example of loving one another by loving His disciples. As Christ has loved his people freely, notwithstanding all their unworthiness and ungratefulness, so should they love one another.
Christ loves them not in word only, but in deed and in truth. Sincere and Genuine without guile, so should they love one another with a pure heart fervently. He taught them what's greatest in the Kingdom of God, called them aside to Himself to rest, prayed for them, washed their feet and He loved them to the end. The attitude was one of humility of a servant, the example of Christ as Paul spoke, Let this mind be in you which was also in Christ Jesus, who, being in the form of God, did not consider it robbery to be equal with God, but made Himself of no reputation, taking the form of a bondservant, and coming in the likeness of men. (Philippians 2:5-7).
Love is the identifying mark of His disciples through service. One that has impact, a witness, empowered by the Holy Spirit. It is the grace of God given us to serve, we will do so without boasting ourselves or critical of others. My little children, let us not love in word or in tongue, but in deed and in truth. (I John
Prayer: Lord You have given me a new commandment to love one another. Its the way we expressed our witness as Your disciples. It's through Your love we can love others without compromising sins and slothfulness.
