Read John 4 The Samaritans encounter

Then they said to the woman, Now we believe, not because of what you said, for we ourselves have heard Him and we know that this is indeed the Christ, the Savior of the world. (John 4:42 NKJV)

Jesus travels from Judea to Galilee passing through Samaria. Meeting a woman coming to draw water, Jesus turns her focus of the activity to Himself by requesting for a drink, The Samaritan woman was taken aback because of different in culture, race and religious practices.

Jesus uses the natural water (things that are dead or temporal) to spiritual water (things that are living or eternal) Jesus answered and said to her, If you knew the gift of God, and who it is who says to you, Give Me a drink, you would have asked Him, and He would have given you living water. (John

Jesus reveals her the real needs of finding true relationship instead of ritual, that is to worship God in spirit and in truth. She needs to understand the true nature of her thirst. She had been seeking to fulfil her needs through relationship. Her struggle was love and security from her husband. By mentioning her husbands, Jesus let her to realize and acknowledged He is the prophet. Her knowledge is now her experience seeing the reality of the Messiah. Jesus says, I who speak to you am he. (:26)

Jesus so impacted her that she left what she was doing and went to the city to urge the people to come and see for themselves He is the Christ. This resulted the salvation of many Samaritans.

Prayer: Lord, You brought me to a place of thirst after the spiritual things and I have drank of You. You turn me from activities to gain eternal life to the Person of Yourself who is my life eternal and my past is nullified with the present life of abundance.
