FAITHFUL IN THE GIVEN
Reading Luke 19 Jesus triumphant entry.
For I say to you, that to everyone who has will be given; and from him who does not have, even what he has will be taken away from him. (Luke 19:26 NKJV)
Jesus had entered and passed through Jericho towards Jerusalem. After the encounter with Zacchaeus, He spoke this parable of the stewards (Luke 19:11-26) in response to the people expectation of Jesus as Messiah to rule soon. Instead, Jesus spoke this parable to explain of His departure and return again before the kingdom came in full glory and to tell them how to conduct themselves in His absence.
Jesus told of a nobleman departing and gave each of his ten servants one mina (equivalent to a three-month wage). Now he returned and required an account of his servant. The first two servants had gained more and were commended for their faithful stewardship. However, another had the sentence passed upon him for his slothfulness and unfaithfulness, He had not traded with the pound entrusted him. His excuse of the masters portion as too little and meanest. His pound was taken from him and given to the one who has more.
It befits that those should lose their gifts who will not use them, and that those who have dealt falsely should be no longer trusted. It is given to him that had diligently put to use.
Will there be any objection against by the standards, because he had so much already Lord, he has ten pounds, (Luke 19:25), it is answered (Luke 19:26), that to everyone who has will be given. It is the rule of justice. That those should be most encouraged who have been most industrious, and that those who have laid out themselves most to do good should have their opportunities of doing good enlarged, and be put into a higher and more extensive sphere of usefulness. To him that hath gotten shall more be given, that he may be in a capacity to get more. That those who have their gifts, as if they had them not, who have them to no purpose, who do no good with them, should be deprived of them.
Prayer: Lord, You have given me finance, manpower and resources to invest and not for hauling or comparing. So, in sowing I may reap. In the faithful over the little I shall have much. What matters that I please You who have entrusted me to be Your steward.
