INTRODUCTION

Luke, a gentile also called the "Beloved physician" (Colossian 4:14) addressed his account of the life of Christ. Its actually part 1 of two volume work Luke-Acts. Written probably about A. D. 60 or 63.

The book is clearly divided into four main parts. The preparation, power what Jesus did, parables what Jesus taught and passion what Jesus accomplished.

Chapters 1- 4 Preparation - an introduction to the birth, childhood and early ministry of John the Baptist and Jesus. Zechariah received the announcement of Johns birth and Mary that of Jesus birth. Elizabeth and Mary: The Magnificat - Poems of celebration of fulfilled prophecies and preview each child will follow. The parents took Jesus to the temple for presentation. Simeon and Anna bear witness to the redeemer. The activity of John the Baptist - preaching and imprisonment. The preparation for Jesus ministry by baptism and temptation. The genealogy of Jesus given.

Chapters 4:14-9:50 Power - Jesuss Ministry in Galilee. He went into the synagogue to read stating the prophecy of Isaiah fulfilled. He was faced with rejection. He went on to Capernaum to show what He came for as read. Bring good news, set free those in captive, healing the sick (leper, paralytic, centurions slave), forgiveness, casting out evil spirits, miracles (catch of fish, stilling of the storm, feeding of the multitude, raising of Jairus daughter) and associates with the outcast (alabaster jar). He formed a new Israel by calling twelve disciples. His teaching on the plain to the twelve as well in parables. He faced controversies with the Jewish authorities. He gave the new revelation and the transfiguration.

Chapters 10 -19 Parables - Journey to Jerusalem. He commissioned the 70 and series of teaching in parables, like the Good Samaritan, the rich fool: the danger of possessions, Impending judgment and accountability, the barren fig tree: a last chance, parables of the Kingdom: the mustard seed, leaven, the banquet: anticipation of an unrestricted Kingdom, the lost and found, the dishonest manager, the unjust judge: patience in prayer, Pharisee and tax collector: self-righteousness and the parable of the pounds.

Chapters 20 -24 Passion - Jesus Final week in Jerusalem. The triumphal entry, Jesus weeps over the city and its future did the cleansing of the Temple. Judas betrayed Him and Peter denied Him when He was arrested, interrogated, accused, mocked and tortured. Pilate finds Jesus innocent but surrenders to the pressure of the crowd and condemns Jesus. The crucifixion of Jesus, buried and resurrected showing His appearances to the two men on the road to Emmaus and other disciples. He was then taken up to heaven.
