Read Proverbs 14 The Contrast between Wisdom and Folly

Righteousness exalts a nation, But sin is a reproach to any people. (Proverbs 14:34 NKJV)

Its easy to take for granted the peace, security and financial blessings we have and think we might even deserve it. Yet its not distance to read of neighboring countries that suffered national disasters, unrest and poverty because of corruption.

It begins with the leadership of the nation. For the throne is established in righteousness (Proverbs 16:12; 25:5) One of our Christian statesmen wrote a congratulatory note to the newly elected Prime Minister with this verse. He responded affirmatively.

Today our nation prospered because the determination of the elected leaders to rule justly with integrity that is righteousness. The nation is exalted, elevate to prominence. By the blessing of the upright the city is exalted, But it is overthrown by the mouth of the wicked. (Proverbs 11:11). In contrast, we note in the scripture, every nation characterized by sin had fallen, Sodom and Gomorrah being judged (Genesis 19:24-25) Babylon, Medo-Persia, Greece even Israel went into captivity for many years.

As we are citizens of both now in the domain where God has placed us and also of His eternal Kingdom, we exercise both rights and responsibilities in the natural and the spiritual. Jesus said, Render to Caesar the things that are Caesars, and to God the things that are Gods; And they marveled at Him. (Mark 12:17) We are the light and salt of the world. Therefore, we do have a significant role to play in the building of the nation. He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God? (Micah 6:8)

It begins at home. We must arise and pray for all nations. God will restore (Jeremiah 18:8; II Chronicles 7:14). Like Nineveh as a nation repented and judgment was averted. (I Timothy 2:1-2)

Prayer: Lord You have placed those in leadership over our nation and we give thank. We uphold them in prayer for their well-being, for the wisdom and strength they need to rule and we subject to them as to You. We pledge by Your grace to live purposefully as salt and light of this world where You have placed us to be a blessing in our generation for such a time as this.
