INTRODUCTION

Proverbs, Ecclesiastes and Job are called wisdom literature. These are meant to guide us to live so as to have a better world. It is wisdom, an attribute of God which comes from the fear of the Lord.

Most of this book is attributed to King Solomon thus written and complied mostly during his reign.

Proverbs contains thirty-one chapters, each comprised of twenty to thirty-five wise sayings. It is a collection of articles relating to wisdom, wealth and women (men). It provides just principles, and correct views of virtue and vice. It is directed to the young man that he does not err through ignorance; and indiscretion, so that by pondering well these precepts, he may not err through obstinacy. The principles of the Proverbs of Solomon are piety, charity, justice, benevolence, and true prudence.

Chapters 1-9 Wisdom for young people. Speeches from a father to a young son. explains the choice between wise behaviors and foolish behaviors. Having fear of the Lord leads to wisdom, virtue, integrity, generosity and success. Whereas folly leads to selfishness and pride with shame.

Chapters 10-24 Wisdom for all people for practical daily living regarding family, marriage, justice, speech, character, work, alcohol, forgiveness, generosity, poverty, and debt .

Chaps. 25-31 Wisdom for leaders. Agur seeking for wisdom and found it is written in the Scripture. for leaders, King Lemuel and a closing lesson on a good wife.
