COMPASSIONATE GOD
Read Psalm 145 The Great Burden Bearer
The LORD is gracious and full of compassion, Slow to anger and great in mercy. The LORD is good to all, And His tender mercies are over all His works. All Your works shall praise You, O LORD, And Your saints shall bless You. (Psalms 145:8-10 NKJV)
The background of this psalm of David surrounds his encounter with Goliath. He knew how God has prepared, called and send him giving him the confidence to face the giant. God is praised in various aspects.
Gods greatness, he praises God personally and continually without ceasing for Gods greatness which is beyond discovery (:1-3) He does mighty acts from generation to generations. He is full of majestic, glorious splendour as seen in His work. (:4-6)
Gods goodness, he praises God for His goodness that is righteous, merciful, compassionate (:7-10), His goodness to all mankind than just the Israelites.
How this is evidenced when we consider the way the Israelites complaint and murmured in the wilderness, turning to idolatry and God revealed Himself to Moses, And he passed in front of Moses, proclaiming, The LORD, the LORD, the compassionate and gracious God, slow to anger, abounding in love and faithfulness, maintaining love to thousands, and forgiving wickedness, rebellion and sin. (Exodus 34:6-7)
Gods glory, he speaks of the glory of His kingdom that endures throughout all generations (:11-13)
Gods generosity as He upholds all who fall and grant the poor their desires (:14-21) He preserves those who love Him but destroy those who are wicked concluding with praise.
Prayer: Lord, I praise Your name, for who You are. You are great and awesome God, the Almighty and Your works are mighty deeds. Though You are all powerful yet will exercises with compassion and mercy that endures forever toward us. You have granted us all that we need that we would declare Your glory throughout generations.
