WE HAVE THE MEDIATOR
Read Job 9-10 Jobs Third Speech: A Response to Bildad
"For He is not a man, as I am, That I may answer Him, And that we should go to court together. Nor is there any mediator between us, Who may lay his hand on us both. (Job 9:32-33 NKJV)
Job faced the counsellors who couldn't empathise with him. First dialogue with Eliphaz who said that ungodly provoked God's wrath, Job's sins brought the suffering and he needed to repent. Blessing is for the one who seeks God (Chapters 4-7) Bildad said essentially the same that is from tradition, the guilty suffered and Job should repent (Chapters 8-10). In his response to Bildad, Job confessed that both the guilty and innocent suffer. He had questions about understanding God's dealing and appeal for revelation.
Job acknowledged God is not like man, a finite, feeble, mortal creature, and a sinful one. He is infinitely superior to men in majesty, and power, and wisdom, and justice. therefore, a vast disparity between them. No man can answer God or presume to debate His cause ( 9:3, 14 -15) upon equal terms before a judge. He needs one that stands in between God and him; but there is none. God caused him to see a need to have a mediator. This intercessor on high will contend with God on his behalf (Job 16:19-22). This will grant him the confident to speak and not fear.
Job must have a knowledge of a Redeemer and Saviour, as the Mediator and Peacemaker, "O that there was a mediator between us!" His prayer is answered down the centuries later. It may be considered as a prayer for Christ's incarnation. He would appear and do the work of a mediator but as in Jobs time; it was not due time.
For us, Christ has come. He is the mediator between God and men. For there is one God and one Mediator between God and men, the Man Christ Jesus, (1Timothy 2:5). He made reconciliation for the sins of men. He makes peace for them with God by the blood of his cross. He is in every way qualified for it, as he partakes of both natures, God and man in one person.
Prayer: Lord, sin, guilt and accusations resulted in my confusion and questions against You. I am drawn to focus on You. Now in thanksgiving, You are my Mediator and I can come freely and boldly into the Your presence.
