THE REWARDER
Read II Chronicles 14-15 Reign of King Asa
But you, be strong and do not let your hands be weak, for your work shall be rewarded! (II Chronicles 15:7)
King Solomon started well and continued to be so (Chaps. 8,9) until latter part of his life where he turned to idolatry. His kingdom was divided between his son, Rehoboam and his rebelled general, Jeroboam (Chaps. 10-12). Abijah succeeded his father, Rehoboam as king of Judah and there were battles between him and Jeroboam of Israel (Chap. 13). Asa succeeded his father, Abijah as the 3rd king of Judah.
He did what was right in the sight of God. He removed pagan altars and ordered Judah to seek the LORD God. The kingdom had rest under his rule. He built fortified cities throughout Judah. He established military strength. He came into confrontation with Zerah the Cushite; he prayed humbly even though he was well established and powerful, O Lord, there is no one but you who can help the weak when they are vastly outnumbered. Help us, O Lord our God, for we rely on you and have marched on your behalf against this huge army. O Lord our God, dont let men prevail against you! The Lord struck down the Cushites before Asa and Judah. (Chap 14)
In those days no one could travel safely, for total chaos had overtaken all the people of the surrounding lands. One nation was crushed by another, and one city by another, for God caused them to be in great turmoil. Then came the word of the Lord through Azariah when Gods Spirit came upon him (1) The LORD is with those who are loyal to him. (2) Who will respond to those who seek Him. When Asa heard these words; he repaired the altar of the Lord knowing his labour would not be in vain. 1Cor. 15:58; Hebrews 10:6. Indeed what the enemy seek to rob; God has something greater for His people to be blessed. Blessed of being transformed into the likeness of Christ in values, attitudes and actions.
Prayer: Father God, You understand my weakness, weariness and wonder if we were as effective even though we thought as having prepared ourselves. Yet in our confrontation with the enemy, lift us up. You are our Reward. We are not motivated by what men gave us to serve but what You have directed us as channels of Your works and warfare.
