II CHRONICLES [15 -21 MARCH Day 75 -81]

INTRODUCTION

II Chronicles is probably written by Ezra. Three main sections:

Chapters 1-9 Distinction of Solomons Kingship. The reign of King Solomon showing his wisdom, building and dedication of the temple in Jerusalem. The queen of Sheba visited him and commended him highly.

Chapters 11 -12 Division of the Single Kingdom. After Solomon died, his son Rehoboam became king. He listened to the younger advisers to be harder than his father., Jeroboam rebelled taking ten tribes with him.

Chapters 13 36 Decline of the Southern Kingdom. It contents mainly the kings of Judah. The nineteen kings after Rehoboam in sequence are: (1) Abijah (Chapter 13). He fenced off Jeroboam of Israel attack. (2) Asa (Chapters 14 16) did what was right but did not finish well because of his compromise by trusting men (3) Jehoshaphat (Chapters 17-20) send priests to teach the Gods word ways of the Lord. But his allied with Israel got him to trouble. He is commended for defeating Moab and Ammon through praise and thanksgiving. (4) Jehoram (Chapter 21) married Ahab's daughter and killed all his brothers (5) Ahaziah ruled one year (Chapter 22) He was wicked because of been influenced by his mother, Athaliah. (6) Athaliah (Chapter 23). (7) Joash repaired the temple (Chapter 24) but backslide after Jehoiadas death (8) Amaziah (Chapter 25) defeated by presumptuous fight with Jehoash of Israel (9) Uzziah Azariah (Chapter 26) did right but backslides after Zechariahs death and became leprous for intruding the priest's office (10) Jotham (Chapter 27) did what was right (11) Ahaz (Chapter 27) defeated by Arameans, attacked by Israel and Edomites, Philistines and cheated by Assyria (12) Hezekiah (Chapters 29-32) reopened the temple door. Threatened by Sennacherib of Assyria, facing his own sickness to death, he sought the Lord except pride later caused the exposure to Babylonian king's visit and repented (13) Manasseh (Chapter 33). erecting idolatry and taken captive by Assyrian. He repented and restored (14) Amon (Chapter 33). did evil (15) Josiah (Chapters 34-35) restored the temple and celebrated the Passover but died in the presumptuous battle against Necho of Egypt (16) Jehoahaz (Chapter 36:2-4) was dethroned by king of Egypt (17) Eliakim (Chapter 36:5-6) renamed Jehoiakim - Brother of Jehoahaz, placed by Egypt as king subsequently attacked by Nebuchadnezzar and taken to Babylon (18) Jehoiachin (Chapter 36:9-10) taken to Babylon (19) Zedekiah (Chapter 36:11-16) uncle of Jehoiachin who rebelled Nebuchadnezzar and thus its final captivity

The book end with the hope of return. The temple prefigured Christ. Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.
