WORSHIP BEFORE DIGNITY
Read II Samuel 6 Moving the Ark to Jerusalem
Bringing back the ark and dance before the Lord, Now as the ark of the LORD came into the City of David, Michal, Sauls daughter, looked through a window and saw King David leaping and whirling before the LORD; and she despised him in her heart. (II Samuel 6:16; 1 Chronicles 15:29)
After victories over the Philistines David set to bring the Ark back to Jerusalem. The first attempt was aborted when Uzzah was struck dead while reaching out to grab hold of the Ark of the LORD because the oxen stumbled. So, David left it in the house of Obed-Edom. The Lord blessed Obed-Edom and all his family and everything he owns because of the Ark of the LORD.
This time round David prepared a place for the Ark of the LORD and pitched a tent for it. He had the Levites to carry on the shoulders, musicians play various instruments, sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. David was wrapped in a linen robe, wore a linen ephod. God wants His work done in His ways particularly through worship.
As they carried the Ark of the LORD, David danced with all his strength before the Lord and making sacrifices. Sauls daughter Michal saw King David leaping and dancing despised him as unbecoming of his royal dignity.
David distributed out to each member of the entire assembly of Israel, both men and women, a portion of bread, a date cake, and a raisin cake. Then he went home to pronounce a blessing on his own house but Micah despised him. And I will be even more undignified than this, and will be humble in my own sight. But as for the maidservants of whom you have spoken, by them I will be held in honor. Therefore Michal the daughter of Saul had no children to the day of her death. (II Samuel
We need to honour those who move with the Spirit as the Lord leads. Never to despise how God leads another in His unique way of worship. Gary Thomas wrote on the Sacred Pathways how individuals differ in their expression of worship and relating to God. We need to accommodate to facilitate their uniqueness in so doing.
Prayer: Father GOD, Your glory and presence deserve our wholehearted worship and honour. Grant the grace that I will not be ashamed or be inhibited in my expression of my worship as well as not to be judgmental of those who express freely their manner of joy and praise given to You.
