GOD OF THE BREAKTHROUGH
Read II Samuel 5 David conquests as King of Israel
"So David went to Baal Perazim, and David defeated them there; and he said, The LORD has broken through my enemies before me, like a breakthrough of water. There he called the name of that place Baal Perazim. (II Samuel 5:20).
After Sauls death, there was a long battle between Israel and Judah. Subsequently his successor, Ishbosheth was assassinated. Then all the tribes of Israel fled to David in Hebron to ask him become king over Israel.
The Philistines heard of David became king, they ambushed to capture him. David enquired the Lord. This was in contrast with his predecessor. David got Gods instruction and defeated them and he called the place Baal-perazim. Some precious lessons out of this incident:
The attack came right after David's coronation. The Philistines searched for David to capture him, when they heard that he had been anointed king over Israel (2 Samuel 5:17-18).
The assurance came because David inquired of the LORD, "Shall I go up against the Philistines? Will you give them into my hand?" And the LORD said to David, "Go up, for I will certainly give the Philistines into your hand." (2 Samuel 5:19-20) David would not assuming his own competence and past record because this place was where he fought Goliath. David went out and defeated the enemy.
The adoration to God when David named the place Baal-Perazim, the God of the breakthrough (2 Samuel 5:20-21). David was given more than he could handle but he turned to God.
We stand firm knowing God has given us the mantle; yet we must inquire of the Lord for our approach and timing. In affirming God's promises; Whatever is laid before us we ask God before making the decision. How cautious we are with in making decisions. God does not send us forth without going before us. He desires us to seek Him before resolving our masses. We grow and experience His faithfulness.
Prayer: Father God, You are God of the breakthrough. I uphold before you the hindrances, obstacles and difficulties where we are surrounded and no way out for us. The enemy know who we are. Given the mantle of Your anointing. We therefore affirmed the battle is Yours. You have promised us the breakthrough as we confront the enemy upon Your bidding. Now in the Name of Jesus I overcome all these hindrances and obstacles and acknowledge You have delivered the enemy into our hands.
