THE MAN RESPONSIBLE
Read II Samuel 12 Nathan confronts David
Then Nathan said to David, You are the man! Thus says the LORD God of Israel: I anointed you king over Israel, and I delivered you from the hand of Saul.... So David said to Nathan, I have sinned against the LORD. And Nathan said to David, The LORD also has put away your sin; you shall not die. (II Samuel 12:7, 13)
Nathan reminded David of how God chose David from shepherding to be the king of Israel. He defeated his enemies time and time again. He protected David from Sauls plot to kill him.
This confrontation was made after Davids sin of committing adultery with Bathsheba, murder of Uriah and took her as his wife. It began with Davids recklessness (:1-5) as he was not engaged in the affair of the nation diligently and looking at what the woman was doing covetously. This resulted an act of adultery. David let down his guard and made tragic choices that caused a pivotal shift in his life, family and kingdom.
He attempted to deceive others to cover his sin. (:6-27). He set a trap for Uriahs death. He used Joab as instrumental to commit such murder. He subtly commended about Uriah's death as due to cause of warfare. But what he did displeased God who knew all the hearts of men. Revelation was given to Nathan concerning Davids sin. Nathan confronted his sin through a parable of the king who took the only lamb his subject owns.
David knew it was God confronting Him through Nathan. He repented but the consequences of his sin affected the next generation. His son, Amnon raped his half-sister, Tamar. This resulted Absalom taking revenge by murdering Amnon reminding the David's murder of Uriah.
Restoration came at the later stage; David was restored the kingdom and Solomon was born to succeed him as king. Through it all It was God's mercy to lead him to the place of conviction and repentance. God exposes the sin of His people to show us example as well to restore those convicted to righteousness.
Prayer: Father God, Lord You reveal truths and judges the heart, I ask You guard me from all pretensions and premeditated sin. I will not covet, be misled, be deceived to fulfil the lust of my flesh. Empower me to conduct myself responsibly and do whatever is the call of duties. Let me not judge others when I need first to identify myself being the man responsible.
