GODS RAINBOW
Read Genesis 6-11 The Story of Noah
I set My rainbow in the cloud, and it shall be for the sign of the covenant between Me and the earth. (Genesis 9:13)
The Tsunamis in December 27th, 2004 resulted a death toll of over 250,000 people. These terrifying walls of water, as high as four storeys, crashed and destroyed the coastal areas in Indonesia, Thailand, Malaysia, Sri Lanka, India, Bangladesh, Myanmar and the Maldives. Greater still was the flood of Noah's day that destroyed all lives except those in the ark.
In Noahs day, the wickedness of man was great, every intent of their heart was evil continually and it grieved the Lord. (Genesis 6:5-12). God would not always strive with men; His righteousness will bring judgement. In the midst of Gods judgment theres mercy and salvation. God called Noah, a righteous man of his days to build the ark. But Noah found grace in the eyes of the LORD. This is the genealogy of Noah. Noah was a just man, perfect in his generations. Noah walked with God. (Genesis 6:8-9)
After the flood, God set the rainbow as a sign to Noah, indicating as long as the earth remained, there would be springtime and harvest, cold and heat, winter and summer, day and night and never be destroyed through a great flood (Genesis 8:21-22; 9:9-17). For this is like the waters of Noah to Me; For as I have sworn That the waters of Noah would no longer cover the earth, So have I sworn That I would not be angry with you, nor rebuke you. For the mountains shall depart And the hills be removed, But My kindness shall not depart from you, Nor shall My covenant of peace be removed, Says the LORD, who has mercy on you. (Isaiah 54:9-10)
Jesus compares the days of Noah and the flood to His coming again, "But as the days of Noah were, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be. For as in the days before the flood, they were eating and drinking, marrying and giving in marriage, until the day that Noah entered the ark, and did not know until the flood came and took them all away, so also will the coming of the Son of Man be." (Matthew.24:37-39). How should we then live while we are reminded of His covenant with Noah each time, we see the rainbow?
Prayer: Father God, let each rainbow I see remind me of Your covenant of mercy in judgment. Your coming draws near even as sins rampant. I seek to live in alignment to Your will and do what is assigned me. Let the promise of Your favour be evidenced upon my life by the sign of a rainbow.
