INTRODUCTION

Genesis is the first of the five books called the Pentateuch. Genesis in Hebrew, bereshit, means in beginning translated into Greek, geneseos, origin, source, Indeed, it is a history of origins, births, and genealogies. The beginning of the universe, mankind, sin and death including God's amazing plan of redemption.

It is written by Moses around 1450 BC to 1400 BC. So it was, when Moses had completed writing the words of this law in a book, when they were finished, (Deuteronomy 31:24) Jesus referred to it, But concerning the dead, that they rise, have you not read in the book of Moses, in the burning bush passage, how God spoke to him, saying, I am the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob? Chapter 1--11 God's creation and judgment.

All that God created were good but man sinned and continues to spiral downward in wickedness ever since. God judged the world with the flood. He saved a remnant, Noah and his family and representative, Men continued to rebel against God by erecting the tower of Babel resulting in a diversity of spoken languages.

Chapter 12-50 God's plan of redemption.

Abraham (Genesis 12-24). Abrams obedience and faith receives Gods promise of blessing. In his old age, he and his wife Sarah have a son, Isaac.

Isaac (Genesis 25-27) has twin sons: Jacob and Esau, Jacob grows up, tricks Esau into giving away his blessing, and Esau attempts to kill him.

Jacob (Genesis 28-36) leaves town to live with his uncle. He marries, has 13 children, and lives with his uncle for 20 years before God calls him back to Canaan. As Jacob returns to the land of Abraham and Isaac, his name is changed to Israel. Jacob has 12 sons and one daughter.

Joseph (Genesis 3750) His brothers sell him into slavery, and he becomes a prisoner in Egypt. His God-given ability to interpret dreams becomes valuable to the Pharaoh. Joseph is released from prison and made second in command of all Egypt.
