II PETER [15 - 16 DECEMBER DAY 350 - 351]
INTRODUCTION
The apostle Peter wrote to the churches in Asia Minor (II Peter 3:1) as he did in his first letter. It was probably written about A.D. 67 near to his martyrdom during the reign of Emperor Nero. It was as his farewell message giving the final challenge.
Chapter 1 The Development of Faith.
After Peter makes his greetings, 1:1-2, he shared on the Growth of Faith, 1:3-11 Gods invitation to all believers as participants of His divine nature which They should never stop growing as God has imparted them the power and authority, they needed to live it out. They are seven traits as faith virtue, knowledge self-control, perseverance, godliness, brotherly kindness, and love. The Ground of Faith, 1:12-21 from here three objections in which Peter respond through his writing concerning the accusation of the false teachers. Chapter 1:16-20 He makes counter accusations these teachers were making against him and the other apostles They did not make up the story of Jesus return but referring to the transfiguration as eyes witness. He stressed the authenticity of the Word, that God himself directed the authors (II Peter 1:20-21).
Chapter 2 The Denouncing of False Teachers, 2:1-22.
Their Conduct, 2:1-3 They denial the final reckoning and thus result in ruthless living in money and sex. Their Condemnation, 2:4-9. Peter brought to their attention about the angels rebellion from Genesis 6, the flood and then Sodom and Gomorrah where God judgment came. Their Characteristics, 2:10-22 God will deliver His people. Their corrupt way of life is distorting the message of Paul about liberty. They are in fact slaves to their sins.
Chapter 3 - The Design of the Future, 3:1-18.
Derision, 3:1-7 Peter responded to the objection about Jesus' return to this earth. Some people might suppose that Jesus will never return. But Peter explained that they are wrongly short sighted. Delay, 3:8-9, God is not slow; but God is patient. And, because God is patient, we have the opportunity to trust God now. Dissolution, 3:10-13 God made the earth. And God will also destroy the earth. Then, we will enjoy the things that God promises: a new heaven, and a new earth. Diligence, 3:14-18
