OUR CALLING
Read I Peter 2 Our Privileges in Christ
But you are a chosen generation, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, His own special people, that you may proclaim the praises of Him who called you out of darkness into His marvellous light; who once were not a people but are now the people of God, who had not obtained mercy but now have obtained mercy. (I Peter 2:9-10 NKJV)
We have hoped for a chance to get into a team or college we sought for. With great excitement and pride when we are among the chosen few. What more is to be chosen for eternality!
God choses us. We are the elect, elect according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, in sanctification of the Spirit, for obedience and sprinkling of the blood of Jesus Christ: Grace to you and peace be multiplied. (I Peter 1:2) You did not choose Me, but I chose you and appointed you that you should go and bear fruit, and that your fruit should remain, that whatever you ask the Father in My name He may give you. (John 15:16).
As a royal priesthood, Now therefore, if you will indeed obey My voice and keep My covenant, then you shall be a special treasure to Me above all people; for all the earth is Mine. And you shall be to Me a kingdom of priests and a holy nation. These are the words which you shall speak to the children of Israel. (Exodus 19:5-6) God positions us as a royal, kingly priest. We are drawn into the presence of God empowered to offer worship, to point others to the Lord and intercede on their behalf. Believers are priests before God. We do not need any mediator except Jesus.
As a holy nation, set apart from the world. For you are a holy people to the LORD your God; the LORD your God has chosen you to be a people for Himself, a special treasure above all the peoples on the face of the earth. (Deuteronomy 7:6)
As special people. God takes ordinary people as we are and He redeemed us making us special. It is beyond our races, ethnic groups and countries. We are born by the Spirit of God and under a new King, His law and dominion.
Wherever we go so long we have the same Kingdoms customs, culture and law that we may proclaim the praises of Him who called us. We were once living in darkness but now in His marvellous light. We proclaim by living in that light openly, gladly, and boldly as the people of God,
Such motivation comes with the awareness of having received mercy from God.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for what You have done. You have chosen me. You have given me a new life principle, a new access to You as royal priest, and under a new government together with all born again believers as a holy nation. I am one of Your special people. The way I live is a proclamation of Your praises. You have taken me out of darkness into Your marvellous light. Knowing I have received mercy that I will also show to those who might have offended me.
