BORN TO A LIVING HOPE
Read I Peter 1 Our Salvation and Calling in in Christ
Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who according to His abundant mercy has begotten us again to a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, to an inheritance incorruptible and undefiled and that does not fade away, reserved in heaven for you, who are kept by the power of God through faith for salvation ready to be revealed in the last time. (I Peter 1:3-5 NKJV)
A mother of a defaulting soldier worthy of been executed came to Napoleon and pleaded for mercy on behalf of her son. The emperor said that her son does not deserve mercy. Her response was if he deserves then is no more mercy. In this case, Napoleon granted mercy and her son was freed. Here, Peters reason of praise as for His abundant mercy.
He was writing to the gentile Christians who were facing persecution. He encouraged them to look beyond the present sufferings to the living hope they have.
We can never be born into a living hope by our effort. It is supernatural and it has to be Gods mercy and His divine power at work in and through us. His mercy is infinite, countless from His willingness to showing us compassion that initiated our spiritual birth to a living hope. Such hope is living. Hope that is expected to happen. Such a hope is evidenced in every day of our lives. It is not cold, inoperative, and dead but powerful as the source is the resurrection of Christ.
The resurrection of the Lord Jesus is the foundation of our hope. Salvation is the gracious act of God. Sealed through the resurrection of Christ. Its a confirmation of what He declared as truth when He lived; it was a proof of the doctrine of the immortality of the soul; it was a pledge that all who are united to Him will be raised up to an eternal destiny.
We will be raised to an inheritance thats eternal. It is not obtained by dishonesty, nor will it be held by fraud; it will corrupt the soul, or tempt to extravagance, sensuality, and lust. This eternal enjoyment will never defile the heart. It is untainted and will not fade away. It will not lose its quality, never get spoil, dies, perish and vanish unlike that which we inherit in this world does.
We have this inheritance guaranteed. Its already reserved by God and preserved by His ability and power. It is guaranteed that we will take possession of our eternal inheritance. He emphasised because they were going through trails. Those trails couldnt affect what is been reserved and preserved by God for them. (Ephesians1:18) Faith activates the preserving power of God in the life of the Christian as we focus on the inheritance and salvation to be revealed. Not just the power of sin but its presence in the last time.
Prayer: Lord, I thank You for Your mercy that initiated my eternal destiny. You have given me this living hope that will not fade away. I am Your redeemed. I am guaranteed of the inheritance I have in You. Knowing You will never leave me. Its Your mercy that I am abiding in Your as my Inheritance now and kept by faith.
