EFFECTIVE PRAYER
Read James 5 The prayer of faith
Is anyone among you ill? He should summon the elders of the church, and they should pray for him and anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord. And the prayer of faith will save the sick, and the Lord will raise him up. And if he has committed sins, he will be forgiven. Confess your trespasses to one another, and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The effective, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much. (James 5:14-16)
As the Church gathers there will be among us some who may be weak, sick either spiritually, emotionally or physically. Anyone in such categories who is present should feel the liberty to approach any of the leaders of the congregation for prayer. He who is in need should initiates it.
The elder will then anoint him with oil in the name of the Lord as a symbolic act of invoking the Person and power of the Holy Spirit to heal. "And they cast out many demons, and anointed with oil many who were sick, and healed them." (Mark 6:13). His prayer of faith brings salvation and wholeness to the sick.
For its the Lord who will raise him up. The leaders simply pray with humility and confidence that they will be healed.
In the event sin is a cause of the infirmity; he will be forgiven. The confession of trespasses to each other and praying for one another will result in healing as it provides no foothold for the evil one to bind.
For such prayer is effective as its done fervently and by faith recognizes the grounds of his righteousness reside in Jesus, and whose personal walk is generally consistent with the righteousness that he has in Jesus.
Prayer: Lord, Your presence is affirmed in our midst whenever we gathered. In our vulnerability towards each other through confessions and prayers we are healed by the power of Your Spirit.
