IMPUTING SOMEONES BEHALF
Read Philemon Pauls plea on Onesimus Behalf
If then you count me as a partner, receive him as you would me. But if he has wronged you or owes anything, put that on my account. (Philemon 1:17-18)
Paul was a spiritual father to Philemon. He could have instructed what the latter should do. Yet he showed such humility to Philemon, I appeal to you for my son Onesimus, whom I have begotten while in my chains, (Philemon 1:10) Paul was positive of Philemon as he could count on him.
Paul draws Philemon attention to the fact they are partners in the grace of God. Both did not deserve salvation but as God has saved them, they are now participants of the same grace; so is Onesimus.
Paul shows sacrificial love for Onesimus. He identifying with Onesimus as one who needed to be accepted. Just as Philemon would receive Paul if he received Onesimus. It was for Pauls sake.
Paul went further so as to show the example of Jesus done for us. He would pay the debt Onesimus own to Philemon even if it is needed to make the reconciliation possible.
Prayer: Lord, You love me with eternal love. You have taken my place and reconciled me to the Father. How much more I can invest, take on behalf the fault of others whenever possible by Your grace so that reconciliation is possible.
