II TIMOTHY [21 24 NOVEMBER DAY 326-329]
INTRODUCTION
This is the second letter to Timothy from prison written shortly before Pauls death about A.D. 66. The theme emphasis is on endurance and faithfulness characters for a spiritual leader to the truth so as to persevere in the proclamation of the gospel.
Chapter 1 to 2:13 The Encouragement to Steadfast Service. After a brief salutation, Paul encourages by personal example. Timothy first to accept his calling. He shared how some have deserted him because of his imprisonment. They would be ashamed to identified with him as if he is a criminal. Following Christ as Paul wrote called for endurance to cultivate love, faithfulness in face of difficulties like a soldier, a runner or a farmer.
Chapter 2:14 4:5 The Exhortations to Sound Doctrine. Paul called Timothy to confront the teaching of the false teachers. Timothy not to allow foolish arguments to upset him. Timothy must refuse to do evil deeds. And he must be a good and patient teacher. False teachers would lead weak people away from the truth. Timothy must teach the truths that he learned from the Bible. He encouraged Timothy to raise teachers of character, discipline and steadfast to teach the truth.
Conclusion 4:6-22 The End is Soon for Paul. Paul confessed about his own faith and great difficulties. He mentioned of Jesus Himself his comfort though others have forsaken him. He then asked Timothy to bring his books and cloak. But Paul knew that God would reward him in heaven. In difficulties Jesus is most tangible and real.
