ESTABLISHED WORK
Read II Thessalonians 2 In view of the Coming of the Lord
Now may our Lord Jesus Christ Himself, and our God and Father, who has loved us and given us everlasting consolation and good hope by grace, comfort your hearts and establish you in every good word and work. (II Thessalonians 2:16-17 NKJV)
This chapter is speaking of Christs coming not of possibility but of certainty. They focus so much on the last day that they might lose sight of God Himself whom they find comfort.
Paul declares the Godhead, Jesus the Son, and God the Father as loving. Both the Son and the Father are one in display of love. He did so to remind them of what God had done for them.
God has also given them good hope. This hope is an assured certainty, not wishful thinking, doesnt ignore reality yet is a good hope, resting on the promises of God. Beloved, now we are children of God; and it has not yet been revealed what we shall be, but we know that when He is revealed, we shall be like Him, for we shall see Him as He is. And everyone who has this hope in Him purifies himself, just as He is pure. (I John 3:2-3). This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, (Hebrews 6:19) We received this hope by grace.
Having this hope will bring comfort to our heart. God is the Source of all comfort to our hearts. He has given them through Christ. He does so to strengthen them In good word, therefore, brethren, stand fast and hold the traditions which you were taught, whether by word or our epistle. (verse 15)
As we hope in Christ we are established in the word giving us the full assurance of salvation, We are established also in the work by the purpose and by the presence of God in the midst of it.
Prayer: Lord, You are the my Everlasting Consolation who has given me hope, comfort and established me in every good work.
