Read II Thessalonians 1 Shining in darkness

Therefore we also pray always for you that our God would count you worthy of His calling, and fulfill all the good pleasure of His goodness and the work of faith with power, that the name of our Lord Jesus Christ may be glorified in you, and you in Him, according to the grace of our God and the Lord Jesus Christ. (II Thessalonians 1:11-12 NKJV)

The Thessalonian Christians were in the midst of persecution and tribulation. Paul assured them that he and his associates would pray always for them. Prayer is God's ordained way for His people whom He had brought to our attention. He prays not so much for the change of the situation as for God to count them worthy of their calling in these threefold purposes.

First fulfil all the good pleasure of His goodness, God has made us for His pleasure. He works in our will so as to enable us to serve in manner of His pleasure. This happens when we do all with delight and as a form of worship. It is also His goodness we are given opportunity to serve. When we live our lives touched by His goodness, we display His goodness.

Second, His work is done in faith. When we do His work by faith, it will manifest His power

Third, we will bring glory to the name of Jesus Christ when we make our stand for Him. We are also glorified in Him. Who we are in Jesus is more important than who we are in anything else.

This great work of living worthy of His calling is the grace of God. It has to happen by His power, favor, and acceptance that is at work in us, for it is God who works in you both to will and to do for His good pleasure.(Philippians
