SPIRIT FILLED LIFE
Read Ephesians 5 Living in the Light
And do not be drunk with wine, in which is dissipation; but be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, singing and making melody in your heart to the Lord, giving thanks always for all things to God the Father in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, submitting to one another in the fear of God. (Ephesians 5:18-21 NKJV)
God has intended you be firm and steady; strengthened in the inner man. This happens when you are filled with the Spirit. It is a contrast to a drunkard person who is unstable, without sobriety and vulnerable to all vices.
Be filled is an imperative, passive and continuous mood. We all have the indwelling of the Holy Spirit at our conversion but we need to keep being filled with the Spirit. It is a command. Be filled means to be under the control of the Spirit. How do we go about living a spirit-filled life?
By speaking to one another in psalms and hymns and spiritual songs, Psalms refers to that in Old Testament poems accompanied by stringed instruments. Hymns are formal and traditional songs which are sung by the congregation in praise of God in public. Spiritual songs are spontaneous expression of joy of salvation, revel in the grace of Christ, or exalt the greatness of God. Paul and Silas sang while in prison. When our hearts are filled with the Holy Spirit; we will impact others with the same joy regardless of the circumstances
Singing and making melodies to the Lord comes from within our hearts. God alone knows what the end is. His love affects us positively. Spontaneously it flows into thanksgiving. We can always be filled with thanksgiving to God for all things even without having our wishes met.
Submitting to one another in the fear of God follow the example of Christ in humility and love. The objective that we might stay united in spirit comes through submitting to one another in the fear of the Lord.
Prayer: Lord, Your Spirit dwells within. Holy Spirit, I acknowledge Your presence. Your ownership over me and I seek to do as You direct, Your ministry in my life will enable me to do what You take pleasure. I have the melody within and the song to bring about my thanksgiving to God.
