INTRODUCTION

Paul wrote to the church at Ephesus (Eph.1:1; 3:1). Paul first came to Ephesus for a short visit toward the end of his second missionary journey (Acts 18:18-19). On his third missionary journey Paul made it back to Ephesus for an extended stay of three years (Acts 20:31). He wrote during his imprisonment in Rome around AD 60.

There are two main sections in the book of Ephesians. The first three chapters are doctrinal on our riches in Christ which pertains to God's part. The second three chapters concern our duty on our responsibilities in Christ.

First section: Chapters 1 3 The Position of Believers In Christ. In Chapter 1- Our Sevenfold Spiritual blessings. Followed by his prayer for their enlightenment and growth.

Chapter 2 - Our Salvation and Unity in Christ. Paul described the five conditions of our former stage (2:1-2:3) and the five works God did for us (2:4-2:10). Paul then elaborates the unity between the Gentiles and the Jews through Christ.

Chapter 3 - Our Empowerment in Christ. Paul spoke of his calling toward the Gentiles and showed the salvation of the Gentiles was a mystery revealed to him. Then he prayed, for strength, love and power (3:14-3:21)

Second section: Chapters 4 to 6:9 The Practice of Believers in life.

Relationship to One another providing us both the attitudes and the basis of unity. (4:1-4:6) Relationship to Spiritual Gift to the Body, (4:7-4:16). Relationship to Daily Living (4:17-5:17). Relationship to the Holy Spirit (5:18-5:21) Relationship at Home (5:22-6:4). Relationship at work (6:5-6:9) Chap.6:10-6:20

The final section on The Protection of Believers by putting on the full armor of God.
