Read Matthew 6 Exhortation toward internal righteousness

But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. (Matthew 6:33 NKJV)

In an attempt to fill the jar with stones - we would fill in the bigger ones first before the pebbles and then the sands. This is the effective way of filling up the space. In similar way we have many expectations and needs to attend to yet with limited time. Thus, what is important has to have the greater attention. Here Jesus is not disregarding the need of having to seek the meeting of our physical, temporal and natural needs. God knows we need of all these things like food, clothing, dwelling (Matthew 6:25-32) but for what is eternal matters more. He thus provides the priority, the place and the promise.

The priority is to seek first the Kingdom of God. There were many things that occupied the disciples yet Jesus would have them focus and employ their minds to an eternal reward. They are to seek, a passionate pursuit.

The place is the kingdom of God which is His rule. It is not religiosity; it is practical even in loving and serving others as honouring the Lord. It is in contrast to serving mammon, merely on the possession, position and power of this world with a life cursed with worry. It is a commitment to find and to do the will of God, to ally oneself totally with His purpose in every aspect. This includes His righteousness. This is not the righteousness of man, which is of the law, but that which is through faith in Christ, the righteousness of God by faith.

The promise given us that as we seek first His rule over our life, we are assured of our needs be met. All things pertaining to this life shall, in the course of the divine providence, be bestowed on us.

Prayer: Lord, You are the Creator and nothing is impossible for meeting my needs. You have sustained Your creation so have You sustained me. Whatever pleases You Lord make it my desire to fulfil. Let Your Kingdom come first when theres a conflict of interest in living out Your life in the ordinary course of day.
