ASK
Read Matthew 7 Relationship to others and God with discernment
Ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you. (Matthew 7:7 NKJV)
We see a progressive intensity, going from asking to seeking and to knocking. Jesus told us to have intensity, passion, and persistence in prayer.
Ask with confidence and humility. Like as one is destitute of all spiritual good, and God alone who can give it. The requests are in accordance to the context. It refers to living the Kingdom life Jesus spoke. God knows our every needs to live the blessed life yet He chooses that we come to Him in acknowledgement of our needs by asking.
Seek with care as the woman who looks for her lost coin and the shepherd for the lost sheep. Prayer is meditating His word, and contemplating His will as God has revealed. He promised finding as the reward of seeking.
Knock with earnestness like the man who knocked on the door of his neighbour for bread because he has a guest. This was to show the willingness God intents of giving to His children. Just as the Son asked of the father will he give him a stone?
All these verbs are imperatives and in a continual sense. Thus, we never cease praying. God values persistence and passion in prayer because they show that we share our hearts with Him. Persistent prayer does not overcome Gods stubborn reluctance; it gives glory to Him, expresses dependence upon Him, and aligns our heart more with His. Through this we grow in knowledge of God and intimacy with Him.
Prayer: Lord, You sought me out. You have drawn me to Yourself. I am constantly asking and seeking for Your illumination. As You direct than I can seek and wait for Your open door. I may know You have answered my prayer. For this is your ultimate glory.
