BEHOLDING THE PIERCED ONE
Read Zechariah 12 Prophecy of the Coming of the Messiah
And I will pour on the house of David and on the inhabitants of Jerusalem the Spirit of grace and supplication; then they will look on Me whom they pierced. Yes, they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. (Zechariah
Zechariah has the most prophecies concerning Christ both on His first coming (chapter 9:12) and His return and reign over the earth (chapter 14).
Here he points prophetically to Christ, the Branch Take the silver and gold, make an elaborate crown, and set it on the head of Joshua the son of Jehozadak, the high priest. Then speak to him, saying, Thus says the LORD of hosts, saying: Behold, the Man whose name is the BRANCH! From His place He shall branch out, And He shall build the temple of the LORD; Yes, He shall build the temple of the LORD. He shall bear the glory, And shall sit and rule on His throne; So He shall be a priest on His throne, And the counsel of peace shall be between them both. (Zechariah
When Christ comes the second time. The Jews shall recognise He is indeed the Messiah whom they have crucified.
Such a time ...they will mourn for Him as one mourns for his only son, and grieve for Him as one grieves for a firstborn. They saw their mistake of rejecting Him when He first came. He was their firstborn whom they had killed. They are not able to fathom His mercy and grace for the revelation that they will then received.
Such came through the Spirit of grace and supplication. Even being able to supplicate is certainly the Spirit of Grace given us. How for those who have served and interceded for the salvation of the Jews rejoice over the grace of God! Its the Holy Spirit Himself who brings about the conviction and repentance.
Prayer: Lord is Your Spirit that draws us to Yourself, to seek You, to repent of our sins and to behold You. I pray for Israel that Your chosen people be able to recognize You have already come the first time as their Messiah and receive Your grace instead of holding on to the law.
