LOVE UNCOMPROMISED
Read Malachi 1 Gods Love Questioned
I have loved you, says the Lord. Yet you say, In what way have You loved us? Was not Esau Jacobs brother? Says the Lord. Ye Jacob I have loved; (Malachi 1:2 NKJV)
God is love. His love is personal and He declares it. Here He has chosen Israel as the nation He loves. This doesnt mean all other nations are not loved by God. For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life. (John 3:16). The difference is that Israel was His chosen to be a witness of His glory to the rest of the world.
The people were questioning and doubting the love of God, so God reminds them of the origin of the nation. This was the covenant God made with Abraham when he believed in God (Genesis 12:1-2). Through history He delivered them, provided, protected and His presence for them including the discipline out of love.
God makes a distinction of His love for Jacob in contrast for Esau as hate. It is not with God hating Esau but with God loving Jacob. Was God discriminative? No because God knew Esau who would despise his birth right, choice of carnality to spirituality, flesh to the spirit, and pride as we read of the Edomites descendants of Esau in the Book of Obadiah.
The apostle Paul makes clear the election, the linage of faith and grace, And not only this, but when Rebecca also had conceived by one man, even by our father Isaac (:10) (for the children not yet being born, or having done any good or evil, that the purpose of God according to election might stand, not of works but of Him who calls), (:11) it was said to her, The older shall serve the younger.: As it is written, Jacob I have loved, but Esau I have hated.: (Romans 9:10-13). Paul further explains that in Gods justice all would have been judged and cut off but He shows mercy and compassion whom He will.
Where we as believers is a confirmation and affirmation of Gods love, mercy and compassion on us at His will. We are no better than any other men except what we are is by the grace of God.
Prayer: Lord, I can never question You love. I will not judge You with regard to Your choices. I am fully confident You acted by grace and mercy. I will remain to pray for those You have brought to my attention that they may see who You as One not willing any should perish.
