THE LORD PRESERVES
Read Zephaniah 2 Call to Repentance
"Seek the LORD, all you meek of the earth, Who have upheld His justice. Seek righteousness; seek humility; It may be that you will be hidden (sheltered) in the day of the LORD's anger." (Zephaniah 2:3 NKJV)
The prophet speaks of the coming judgment on the people of Judah. They were complacence as if everything is going well. They continued in sin. God judgment will be inevitable. The prophet calls for three actions.
Seek the Lord. Addressed to the meek as they have profited from the chastisement of the Lord. They have humbled themselves to the Lord. They seek by supplication, to know His mind and will in the day of coming judgment. But from there you will seek the Lord your God, and you will find Him if you seek Him with all your heart and with all your soul. (Deuteronomy
Seek righteousness. This refers more than just right moral principles, and practices consistent to Gods character. Yet it is not self righteousness but faith. For what does the Scripture say? Abraham believed God, and it was accounted to him for righteousness. (Romans
Seek humility. For I say, through the grace given to me, to everyone who is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think, but to think soberly, as God has dealt to each one a measure of faith. (Romans
Shelter and safety is promised. For in the time of trouble He shall hide me in His pavilion; In the secret place of His tabernacle He shall hide me; He shall set me high upon a rock. (Psalms
The exhortation is those who seek the Lord would be saved at this time from the general calamity. They will be hidden, protected, and preserved, by the power and, providence of God. the time of the destruction of Jerusalem by the Chaldeans; some were put to the sword, and others carried captive.
Prayer: Lord, I seek You as my Shield and am kept from all harm in time of danger and judgment. Open my eyes and understanding in time of destruction to see Your Sovereignty and Glory, Your Righteousness and Mercy.
