Read Amos 5 Inevitable Judgement

But let justice run down like water, and righteousness like a mighty stream." (Amos 5:24)

How our heart grieved when we seen pictures of atrocities been committed, personal experiences of been treated unjustly or behalf of someone. Here was Israel

Amos laments over Israel's sins. He pronounces woe to the people who are ignoring the Day of the Lord (5:18-27). They long for the day thinking of greater blessing. Instead, it will be of Judgment, despair, darkness and doom. They seek to run only to meet another danger, i.e., from the frying pan into the fire. Their offerings are rejected. Outwardly they appear religious but in reality they are more concern of making money, exercising unjust gains and exploiting the poor than worshipping God (5:11-12; 8:5-6).

The Israelites act unjustly (2:6-7a). They commit bribery yet supported by corrupt judges. The rich are suing the poor, who couldnt pay their bills, and forcing them into servitude and slavery. Instead, they are trampled like the dust of the earth. God is Just. He wants His justice to flow freely. He calls us to justice. He has shown you, O man, what is good; And what does the LORD require of you But to do justly, To love mercy, And to walk humbly with your God?

God is Righteous. He calls His people to do whats right. Oh, that you had heeded My commandments! Then your peace would have been like a river, And your righteousness like the waves of the sea.

We attend corporate worship and serve the Lord but do we act justly and righteously not just publicly but privately? How do we relate to my subordinates, domestic helpers and clients or associates? As we act in honour of Christ we are worshipping God through acting justly and righteously.

Prayer: Lord, You shown me love and justice. We take on Your righteousness. As You have chosen us; You will empower us to be Your channel where You act justly and righteously.
