Read Joel 3 The Day of the LORD in postlude

And it will come to pass in that day That the mountains shall drip with new wine, The hills shall flow with milk, And all the brooks of Judah shall be flooded with water; A fountain shall flow from the house of the LORD And water the Valley of Acacias. (Joel 3:18 NKJV)

Joel had spoken of Israel sins and Gods judgment in the day of the Lord yet is not the final. Here in chapter three, he spoke of the final day of the Lord as one of ultimate blessing and hope for Israel as well as those who are His people through faith. In this final day, after the nations are judged, Jesus shall reign in person (Joel 3:17) The land will become the land of milk and honey.

It is Gods initial acts of gathering His people of saving them and remove their enemies. How this should motivate the joy of living and looking to the final end.

The picture Joel gave is one of the land of abundance. He uses the terms of, drip with new wine flow with milk, flooded with water and fountain alluded to health, freshness, refreshing and provision. The days of drought when Israel was disciplined are just a distant memory.

Its source is from God, the house of the Lord. Ezekiel 47 describes waters flowing from the house of the LORD in the time after Jesus triumphant return, in the Millennium. Zechariah 14:8 also speaks of a great flow of water from Jerusalem, emptying both into the Dead Sea and the Mediterranean.

This fountain shall water the Valley of Acacias (Valley of Shittim) was a place associated with both failure and victory. It was where the King of Moab sent his young women to the men of Israel to seduce them into idolatry and sexual immorality (Numbers 25:1-3). It was also the launching place for the armies of Israel when they set out against Jericho and Canaan in the days of Joshua (Joshua 2:1 and 3:1). When water from the house of the LORD flows down to the valley of Acacias, then Gods grace and provision covers the past every sin, every victory is covered over by Him.

Prayer: Lord, You are King and Sovereign over all the world. The ultimate victory and blessings are certain and decisive. We live with this perspective in mind as we rejoice toward the day all shall know You are Lord.
