Read Joel 2 The future Day of the LORD

And it shall come to pass afterward That I will pour out My Spirit on all flesh; Your sons and your daughters shall prophesy, Your old men shall dream dreams, Your young men shall see visions. And also on My menservants and on My maidservants I will pour out My Spirit in those days. (Joel 2:28-29NKJV)

Judah will be disciplined but Joel called the people of Judah to repentance (2:12-17) and experience Gods restoration (2:21-27).

In the Old Testament, the Spirit of the Lord comes upon specific individuals like, the judges and prophets whom God raised up for extraordinary services. Now the Spirit shall be poured out plentifully in a full stream, as was promised also in Isaiah 44:3.

Joel looks forward to the glorious New Covenant, when the Spirit of God would be poured out in the latter day of the Lord. This was fulfilled on the Day of Pentecost when the disciples gathered in the upper room, waiting in Jerusalem for the outpouring of the Holy Spirit that Jesus promised would come (Acts 1:4-5) When the outpouring of the Spirit came, the 120 followers of Jesus were all filled with the Spirit and began to praise God in other tongues. Peter gives an infallible explication and application of it, assuring that when the Spirit was poured out upon the apostles, on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2:17) that was the very thing which was spoken of here by the prophet Joel.

Under the New Covenant, every believer, men and women without disparity has access to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit. The gift of prophecy was bestowed upon some women under the Old Testament like Miriam (Exodus 15:20) and Deborah (Judges 4:14) now in New Testament. we read of four daughters of Philip the Evangelist who prophesied (Acts 21:9). The promise was given because the need for the power of the last day.

God often made known His will to the patriarchs and prophets, impressing their minds, while they were asleep, with the things He intended to communicate. Distinguished from dreams, the inspired person was awake, but his external senses being bound up, and, as it were, laid in a trance, Peters vision in Acts 10, and John at Patmos.

Even persons of the lowest condition shall be made partakers of the saving graces of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord You have poured Your Spirit upon us. We desire to be receptive by dream or vision as to what You have for us and others. Grant that we boldly exercise the anointing in prophecy and gifts to witness Your power across gender, status and age. That's where no man can share Your glory.
