PURPOSE OF HEART
Read Daniel 1 Decline of Judah
But Daniel purposed in his heart that he would not defile himself with the portion of the kings delicacies, nor with the wine which he drank; therefore he requested of the chief of the eunuchs that he might not defile himself. (Daniel 1:8 NKJV)
How easy its to gain weight and eat at our pleasure. In a weight management program, we have to exercise restrain even avoiding areas that would tempt us to eat indiscreetly. Eve compromised over the forbidden food led to the fall of men and Esau over the stew lost his birth right. Here is another kind of challenge Daniel had for honouring God.
Daniels heart was settled. His intention clear. He had made up his mind beforehand that he would not compromise in any way that would dishonour God. He did not take the food and drink offered him. He knew the culture of the heathen nation as wine and meat were dedicated to the gods, He was faithful in the little and every aspects of life.
His decision would risk his life as it might mean defiance to the kings order. However, he was polite and making it as a request. His wise manner of approach without being obnoxious must have won the favour of his custodian that granted him his wish. Throughout his life we see his faithfulness in serving and in prayer,
The outcome was a testimony of Gods faithfulness as they proved to be wiser than the rest. My heart is steadfast, O God, my heart is steadfast; I will sing and give praise. (Psalms 57:7; 108:1)
Prayer: Lord You are watching over me. With the many influences around and seduction that could easily draw us to sin; I asked of Your Holy Spirit who indwell in me to empower me of my decision to honour You without compromise.
