STANDING IN THE GAP
Read Ezekiel 22Judgment coming to Judah
So I sought for a man among them who would make a wall, and stand in the gap before Me on behalf of the land, that I should not destroy it; but I found no one. (Ezekiel 22:30 NKJV)
My daughter longed to admit to a top school but the deadline was closed. I went to see the principal and appealed that gotten her the place. It was worth standing in the gap.
God sought earnestly after a man to stands in the gap. Moses stood in the gap interceding to turn away the wrath of God, Therefore He said that He would destroy them, Had not Moses His chosen one stood before Him in the breach, To turn away His wrath, lest He destroy them. (Psalms 106:23)
God wants to intervene. He does so through a man who prays. The man is an intercessor before God pleading on behalf of the land. It is taking up the breach against the judgments of God, by repentance, and prayer, and reformation to repair the breach. Sin makes a gap in the hedge of protection.
God found no one standing in the gap. Both the religious and national leaders of Israel were living and leading wickedly. Those who should have been the brightest examples of virtue were ringleaders in iniquity and patterns of vice. Besides, the prophets claiming to make known the mind of God, were deceivers, and devourers. The priests violated the law of God, profaned God's holy things, or show any regard to them. The princes, who should have interposed with their authority to redress these grievances, were as daring transgressors of the law as any. All their business was to gratify their own pride and ambition. The people that had any power in their hands learned of their princes to abuse it, (Ezekiel 22:25-29).
There was none who was willing to pay the price. When it is so, what can be expected but utter ruin? Therefore have I poured out my indignation upon them (Ezekiel 22:31),
How marvelous God has provided us the Man Jesus His own Son to stand in the GAP for us. He remains today as our Mediator and Advocate for all blessings we are receiving (Hebrews 7:25).
Prayer: Lord Jesus You have become our mediator and we are delivered. Whatever role You have destined us You have also granted us the grace as You empowered us in obedience to take our place.
