Read Lamentations 3 The Prophets Anguish and Hope

Through the LORDs mercies we are not consumed, Because His compassions fail not. They are new every morning; Great is Your faithfulness. The LORD is my portion, says my soul, Therefore I hope in Him! (Lamentations 3:22-24 NKJV)

After the captivity, the people cried up over the stage of the siege. In the midst of affliction as consequences of the people sin; God showed His mercy in His justice. Looking at the cruelty of the enemies, the prophet would have anticipated total destruction and annihilation. Crying out to God as if He had forsaken them; He started the name of Yahweh and hope begins to surface seeing God is merciful. We thus noted here the source of mercy, the strength and the satisfaction.

The source of mercy is God. The Lord's mercies, denoting the abundance and variety of those mercies. Without which, all would have been destroyed at an instance of sin. Yet He would constantly warn His people by His prophets to repent. God is the Father of mercies. For as the heavens are above the earth, So great is His mercy toward those who fear Him. (Psalms 103:11)

The strength of Gods mercy and compassion never fails even through His discipline. My mercy I will keep for him forever, And My covenant shall stand firm with him. (Psalms 89:28). God is a Faithful God. Though Jerusalem be in ruins, the Lord endures forever in keeping His covenant. His compassion is new every morning; each day we live seeing His grace.

The satisfaction of Gods mercy is the prophets portion and hope. We can say like the prophet, our hope is in the faithful God. For the Lord will not cast off forever. (Lamentations 3:31) and thus with expectations of the future.

He does not deal with us according to our sins. We should have been consumed if God has not shown us mercy. We are bound to acknowledge it to his praise (Psalms 103, 136). He deals with us as being in Christ where His mercy envelopes us. As His children, we may be chastened and corrected, yet not consumed, rather we are refined in the furnace as silver; not consumed as dross according to His mercy.

Prayer: Lord each morning I am awake with gratitude for another day to experience Your mercy. You have awesome and marvelous plan destined for me and I live with You as my Portion and Hope to be what You have done and came for me.
