Read Jeremiah 6 Judah on Trial

Thus says the LORD: Stand in the ways and see, And ask for the old paths, where the good way is, And walk in it; Then you will find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk in it. (Jeremiah 6:16 NKJV)

Jeremiah had served faithfully yet the people rebelled in religious apostasy. They were justifying themselves (Jeremiah 2:13,35) allowing the false prophets to appeased them (Jeremiah 6:14).

The LORD is Jehovah, the self-existing One, the self-sustaining One and self-revealing One is speaking. He is calling Judah with His mercy in the midst of impending judgment. He is calling them to pause in their ways. A metaphor of a man in the Crossroads.

They were so preoccupied with themselves they lost sight and were confused of the right path. Because My people have forgotten Me, They have burned incense to worthless idols. And they have caused themselves to stumble in their ways, From the ancient paths, To walk in pathways and not on a highway, (Jeremiah 18:15) Pause and consider with serious reflection asking for the old paths, where the good way is. It may be their history and forefathers, to learn from what God had done in and through them before. They are the way of repentance and reconciliation.

For us, its the way of life that matures the human soul and shape us into His image. Perhaps in our context, through a process of silence, solitude and sanctification where God could deal, mould and shape us. Jesus is the Path and apostle had set the ways for us. It's back to the Bible not human tradition. Back to intimacy fellowship with Him not outward rituals.

Discerning the way, they must walk in it to. They will find rest. Here, they would not but following their own schemes, as Solomon wrote, Truly, this only I have found: That God made man upright, But they have sought out many schemes. (Ecclesiastes 7:29)

The many devices, media, that exploit our longing for social validity. It creates in us looking for digital identity. It is the tyranny of technology that empowers, enchants, ensnare and enslave us with New Age influences that marginalise the teaching of Christ. It causes us to feel restless and unwilling to sit still and be quiet in the presence of God. Living an unexamined life, indifference, speaking careless words.

Prayer: Lord it's going back to Your word that I find rest. You are the Word and that is the rest for me found in truth, righteousness and eternal life.
