STRETCHING OUT
Read Isaiah 54 the Restoration of Israel
Enlarge the place of your tent, And let them stretch out the curtains of your dwellings; Do not spare; Lengthen your cords, And strengthen your stakes. (Isaiah 54:2 NKJV)
Israel is likened to a barren woman. She is in captivity with shame. The prophet speaks she can now sing. She will have more children than the married woman. It comes with the coming of the Messiah. The curse and shame of barrenness would be so completely broken, and Israel would be so fruitful, that they would have to expand their living space.
Israel is called upon thus to enlarge her territory. Enlarging the tent involves stretching out, sparing not and strengthening the cord. This passage is quoted by the Apostle Paul in Galatians 4:27, in reference to the miraculous "birth" of those under the New Covenant. Thus, this inner life of us is to grow in capacity and influence.
Stretched out to reach what the vision according to the gifts and potentials we received from God. Let us wait upon the leading of His Spirit to move forward.
Spare not by releasing what we have. Do not withhold, lengthen as we move on. Multiply with what we already have. Do not quit whatever the Lord has called us to do by falling back to past failures, fear, discouragement and sense of inadequacy.
Strengthen the stakes as the larger the tent is the stronger the cord and the stakes have to be. We can keep building but unless we strengthen the foundation we will build in vain. It speaks of depth. The deeper it is the higher and the further one is able to go. It's the strengthening of the inner man - compulsion to conviction to conscience and composure with the determination to hang on tough; not giving to mediocrity. It comes through reading, praying, reflection biblically and fellowship with the committed.
Prayer: Lord Your Spirit dwells within me spurring me on. I desire to be led by You with the potential and purpose you have called me to enlarge my territory. As I do so in stretching out without sparing; I will also strengthen my stake in-depth to stand firm without compromise.
