Read Proverbs 9 The Way of Wisdom and Folly

The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom, And the knowledge of the Holy One is understanding. (Proverbs 9:10 NKJV)

Familiarity breeds contempt. All of us born with the sin nature would have acted in defiance without discipline. As children we have certain degree of fear for authority after being disciplined. This "fear" the Hebrew noun yirah is viewed as a positive quality produced by Gods Word and makes a person receptive to wisdom and knowledge.

The promises for those who fear Him, receive knowledge, (Pro.1:7) long life (Pro.10:27;14:26) ), kept from evil. (Prov.19:23), riches and honor and life. (Pro. 22:4). Who is the man that fears the Lord? Him shall He teach in the way He chooses. 13 He himself shall dwell in prosperity, And his descendants shall inherit the earth. 14 The secret of the Lord is with those who fear Him, And He will show them His covenant. This fear of the Lord is expressed in four ways. (1) Posture in our service: "Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom which cannot be shaken, let us have grace, by which we may serve God acceptably with reverence and godly fear. For our God is a consuming fire." (Hebrews 12:28, 29) Serve the Lord with fear, And rejoice with trembling. (Psalm 2:11)

(2) Perfecting Holiness, "Therefore having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God." (II Corinthians 7:1).

(3) Penitence in spirit "The fear of the Lord is to hate evil; Pride and arrogance and the evil way, And the perverse mouth I hate." (Proverbs 8:13) The fear of the LORD is the instruction of wisdom, And before honor is humility. (Proverbs

(4) Perseverance in Faith, You who fear the Lord, trust in the Lord; He is their help and their shield. (Psalms 115:11)

Prayer: Lord, Thank You for giving me a holy fear. I come before You in that posture in service, perfecting in Your Holiness, penitence in spirit and perseverance in trusting You. I therefore receive Your promises of provision
