Read Psalms 30 An Exhortation to Praise

For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. (Psalms 30:5 NKJV)

David wrote this Psalm at the time of the dedication of his house. He was under discipline for numbering the people of Israel (1Chronicles 21-22:6). He was proud initially of his achievement but it's God who moved him from self-reliance to God's reliance.

Experiencing the transition of Gods discipline; David realized it was momentarily. God takes off His hand, manifests His pardoning love, and comforts whom He disciplined. In view of the blessings; such affliction is light. ( ) ( ). God quickens the soul in a spiritual sense, and makes grace lively; it invigorates faith, encourages hope, and makes love to abound, and it issues in eternal life.

Gods love and favor in Christ towards His people lives and always is, even when He seems to be angry. His love lasts as long as life does, yea, to all eternity; neither death nor life can separate from it; or the object of it,

Night time is an allusion to the time when afflictions are usually most heavy and pressing upon the persons. They most feel them, may point at the season of weeping, and because of it.

Joy in the morning alluding to the time when all nature is fresh. Time when man rises cheerful from his rest, darkness removes, light breaks forth, and the sun rises and sheds its beams, and everything looks pleasant and delightful. A new day with new hope. Moreover, the mercies of God are new every morning, call for thankfulness; and especially it is after weeping and darkness.

David was restored to health and did not die prematurely. This allowed him to declare praises to God. He was thus thankful to God that though mourning may come in a night yet joy shall come by morning. David now called upon others to do the same as he confessed God's favor. He makes praise his lifetime. God disciplines in His anger. God's anger and discipline is only momentarily but His mercy and favor is for life. The outcome of His dealing is to bring us to glory and to enable us to praise Him even when looking back.

Prayer: Lord, Your favor upon my life endures forever. Thank You for allowing me to learn from consequences of my mistakes to humble me and be reliance upon You instead of self.
