THE EVERGREEN LIFE
Read Psalm 1 The Blessed Man
He shall be like a tree Planted by the rivers of water, That brings forth its fruit in its season, Whose leaf also shall not wither; And whatever he does shall prosper. (Psalms 1:3 NKJV)
We read and meditate words, messages send to us by those who meant a lot to us, like when we were first fallen in love. So is the way we read Gods letter to us who are greatly loved.
Psalm 1 provides a portrait of two lives in contrast. The blessed godly life (Psalm 1:1-3) versus the cursed of the ungodly life (Psalm 1:4-6). The blessed man delights in meditating the law of God instead of following the ways of the ungodly. He is like a tree planted by flowing streams; it yields its fruit at the proper time, and its leaves never fall off (Jeremiah 17:7,8). He is truly successful in the eyes of the Lord.
One who meditates the word is comparable to a "tree planted". One that is removed from its native place and soil, and planted elsewhere. Likened also one that is broken off of the wild olive tree, and is grafted into the good olive tree. The analogy we are planted in Christ Jesus.
This tree bears forth fruit in God's season is not a struggle but the effect of being planted. As engrafted in Christ the true vine, and abide in him, from whom they have their sap, nourishment, and fruit, ( -2 ) Those who are planted in the house of the LORD Shall flourish in the courts of our God. They shall still bear fruit in old age; They shall be fresh and flourishing, (Psalms
The leaves shall not wither. They provide shade to the weary. Whatever we do out of our lives shall prosper not only now but also through eternality. This comes by delighting in the Word of God unceasingly.
How do we meditate? We engage our mind, emotion and spirit with the word we heard, read or recall. We focus on the Person Jesus and rely on the Holy Spirit as we place ourselves in the scenario. Ask God what He is saying and working for our personal transformation, and live out with the mindset.
Prayer: Lord Your Word bears forth fruit through my life as I take delight in meditating it daily.
