Read I Chronicles 13 David Attempts to Move the Ark

"The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the LORD blessed his household and everything he had." (1 Chronicles 13:14)

Someone's presence can bring joy and delight to a family as well as conflict and confusion. What's the presence we carry into the places we go? How do we fare in our own homes? Here we noted the blessing of the Lord's presence.

The ark represents the presence of God. It was first taken by the Philistines when they defeated Israel (I Samuel 4:10). They had trouble keeping the ark. Their god, Dagon was fallen with its head and hands broken, the people of Ashdod and its vicinity were afflicted with tumours. The way out for the Philistines was to return to Israel. It was left in Abinadab's house for twenty years (I Samuel 5 & 6; 7:1-2)

When David became king; his first priority was to bring the ark of God from Kiriath Jearim to Jerusalem. Along the way, Uzzah reached out and took hold of the ark because the oxen stumbled and he was struck dead because of his irreverent act and David became angry and unwilling to bring it back (II Samuel 6:1-11; I Chronicles 13). It was then brought to the house of Obed-Edom. While the ark was in his house, he and his household was blessed and in everything he had (II Samuel 6:11-12).

The Philistine trembled at handling the ark, Uzzah died when acted presumptuously and irreverently to it, David become bitter and abandoned it but Obed-Edom welcomed it and was blessed. All his children ended as great men of God, some as commanders and some musicians serving God (I Chronicles 26:4-5)

How do we relate to the presence of God? Where the ark is, the presence of God is and thus His blessing. Christ is the true Ark. Welcome Him into the midst of your household, and get ready for you and your generations after to be truly blessed.

Prayer: Father God, You are Holy. I am at rest as I know You need not my intervention when You have ordained the way things to be done. I welcome Your abiding presence through my attitude and action seeing our household blessed.
