THE LORD IN BETWEEN
Read II Kings 18 and 19 Hezekiah Rules in Judah
Then Hezekiah prayed before the LORD, and said: O LORD God of Israel, the One who dwells between the cherubim, You are God, You alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth. You have made heaven and earth. Incline Your ear, O LORD, and hear; open Your eyes, O LORD, and see; and hear the words of Sennacherib, which he has sent to reproach the living God. (II Kings 19:15-16)
Israel had rebelled and they had fallen captive into the hands of the Assyrians (II Kings 18:9-12). Now King Sennacherib of Assyria threatened to attack Judah during Hezekiah's 14th year reign. The same way the enemy would threaten us to give out without a fight. Consider how the enemy threatened and why?
How did Hezekiah response to the threat? First, he saw the situation as it is. He was presumptuous as if nothing was happening. He putted on sackcloth and sought the Lord.
Second, he sought the Lord in His temple and the word from the Lord. He laid the letter before the Lord and prayed. He addressed God who dwells between the cherubim. There is the mercy seat. The only way we have access is through the mercy of God in Christ. We are accepted through the blood.
Third, he sought God as who He really is. Affirming that God is sovereign, adoring Him as above all the kingdom of the earth. His acknowledgement of God as Creator and the only One who is sovereign and rules. The LORD reigns; Let the peoples tremble! He dwells between the cherubim; Let the earth be moved! (Psalms 99:1 NKJV).
Fourth, he saw the issue as of concern to God. What the enemy did was dishonouring His name. Hezekiah prayer was meant for Gods own glory and honour. His prayer was answered (II Kings 19:29).
Is there something intimidating us? As our prayers are meant to glorify Him on matters that concerns Him, He will intervene. We can leave our agenda with Him.
Prayer: Father God, we dont have to react in fear what the enemy has threatened us. We will bring the issue as it is before You. You are Sovereign, Creator and the Ruler in control. For whatever the enemy works to dishonour Your name through robbing the joy and possession of Your people will be in vain.
