Reading 1Samuel 17 David and Goliath

Then David said to the Philistine, You come to me with a sword, with a spear, and with a javelin. But I come to you in the name of the LORD of hosts, the God of the armies of Israel, whom you have defied. (I Samuel 17:45)

The Philistines and Israelites were arrayed for battle. A champion, Goliath from Gath heavily armed challenged for a fight with any of the Israelites armies. He did so for forty days both morning and night. The Israelites were fearful and upset.

Jesse sent David to bring food for his brothers who were serving in Saul's army as well to update the father on the situation at the battle front. He came to know what was happening and Saul's offer to anyone who could strike Goliath.

David's perspective was different. He was a man of courage. He questioned who is this uncircumcised Philistine, that he should defy the armies of the living God.

David was steadfast and not giving up when his Brother reproved him. He refused to accept Saul's estimation of his inability. He recalled the past of God's deliverance. He relied not on Saul's armour but his own. He disregarded Goliaths contempt of his physique and ability. Goliaths method was the use of threat, verbal abuse and outward display of force. David refused to accept the words hurled at him. Instead, he declared God's power.

David quickly ran toward the battle line to face Goliath. David reached his hand into the bag and took out a stone. He slung it, striking the Philistine on the forehead. The stone sank deeply into his forehead, and he fell down with his face to the ground.

What is the Goliath we are facing? It may come in the form of health, financial, relationship issues. Let us take the same approach as David did. We approach the enemy in the Name of the Lord that makes all the difference.

Prayer: Father God, my eyes and mind are upon You. The enemy appeared overwhelmingly insurmountable. You have said the battler is Yours. In honour of Your Name, I will l steadfastly challenge the enemy and set to action.
