Read 1 Samuel 16 Samuel anoints David

But the LORD said to Samuel, Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the LORD does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the heart. (I Samuel 16:7)

King Saul had disobeyed in keeping part of the booty with the excuse of offering to God. God rejected him as king over Israel. He instructed Samuel to go to Jesse in Bethlehem to look for another in place of Saul. God would show him the king He had selected. Samuel did what the LORD told him.

Eliab, one of the sons of Jesse came before Samuel. Judging outwardly, Samuel thought he was God's chosen king but God impressed him not to choose on the basis of outward appearance but what's in the heart that God had. All seven didn't fit in as God's choice except the last one.

David was shepherding then. He was asked to come and the Lord pointed to him as His choice. He was as good looking. It is great for good physique and appearances as God made us to have but what matters most to God is the matter of the heart. David had a heart after God. He knew God and a desire after Him.

We all seek to present our best outwardly. It's our desire to impress, to win favour and get our expectations. How the Lord chooses rest in the issue of the heart. God looks at the heart of man and the heart of the matter is how man relates to Him. Lets guard our hearts approve to God.

How easy it is to take pride in our natural glory, "Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, Let not the mighty man glory in his might, Nor let the rich man glory in his riches; But let him who glories glory in this, That he understands and know Me, That I am the LORD, exercising loving-kindness, judgment, and righteousness in the earth." (Jeremiah 9:23-34)

Prayer: Father God, I will guard my heart as one that is after You. Let me give more attention to what is within than without. I seek not to be impressed by the outward but what's matter to You.
