Read 1 Samuel 15 Sauls Disobedience

So Samuel said: Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, As in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, And to heed than the fat of rams. (I Samuel 15:22)

I felt the person was in need and I was the hero to provide yet the impression God gave was He is the provider not me. How we seek to impress by our effort when what God wants is our obedience. Sometime it is humbling to trust than to work for it.

The command. Saul was commanded to destroy all the Amalikites (1Samuel 15:1-3) but he did not. He had disobeyed the Lord. He was given the authority to rule and thus accountable to God for submission to His will.

The confrontation. Samuel confronted him for disobedience. He blame it to the people's choice rather than take personal responsibility. Furthermore, he made it as legitimate excuse for sacrifices. The Lord judged his deceitful heart and ulterior motives. There is nothing said against sacrifice but when its motivated out of disobedience, deception and pride; it will nullify its acceptance before God.

The consequences. Saul was rejected and God looked for another. Saul's pride and jealousy, disobedience led to his witchcraft and ultimately died in defeat. Saul succeeded in battle and failed in character. He conquered Agag, but disobeyed God. The glory of his victory was lost in the darkness of his defeat.

How often we thought it's heroic to sacrifice than simply submit. God doesn't want us to come before Him in our terms and think we will please Him.

Prayer: Father God, I want to be sensitive to You and be obedient than to serve You in my term. I know You have meant for my good and long-term blessings with what I have to obey.
