GIFT OF GOD
Read 1 Samuel 1 Elkanah and His Family
Therefore I also have lent him to the LORD; as long as he lives he shall be lent to the LORD. So they worshiped the LORD there. (I Samuel 1:28)
Most couples love and long to have children. How stressful for those longing to have children but remain childless after years of attempts. This is even more so in the time of the Judges. They were despised as being under the curse and looked upon with contempt. The childless Hannah was thus despised by Peninnah who had children (1Samuel 1:1-6). However, this is not the way God looks at it. For Hannah wasnt under any curse or unrepentance of any sin committed.
The power of prayer turned it around for Hannah. In deep anguish, crying bitterly, she vowed if the Lord would look upon her sorrow and answer her prayer. She asked God for a child, and then she would dedicate him to the Lord (1Samuel 1:7-13). The Lord remembered her plea, and in due time she gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel meaning God has heard, for she said, I asked the Lord for him. (1Samuel 1:17-20)
Each child is a gift of God. How much we cherish each of them as Gods precious gifts. The responsibility in providing and caring for them is not a chore but in appreciation to honour God.
Elkanah with Hannah brought the child to Eli and together they offer praise to God. The dedication of each child for life is an honour to God. It follows with worship as they did. The prayer of praise Hannah (1Samuel 2:1-10) made is prophetically akin to that of Marys song of praise (Luke 1:46-55)
Its a great comfort to me knowing I have dedicated and committed my children and grandchildren into the hand of God; they are protected, directed and blessed in their lives.
Prayer: Father God, You have given me the best children and grandchildren at the right time. I thank You for the strength and opportunities given me to speak life and blessing in nurturing them. I do all I can as You would have them to be and receive what You have planned for them.
