Reading: Joshua 14:6-15 Division of the Land
And now, behold, the LORD has kept me alive, as He said, these forty-five years, ever since the LORD spoke this word to Moses while Israel wandered in the wilderness; and now, here I am this day, eighty-five years old. As yet I am as strong this day as on the day that Moses sent me; just as my strength was then, so now is my strength for war, both for going out and for coming in. Now therefore, give me this mountain of which the LORD spoke in that day; for you heard in that day how the Anakim were there, and that the cities were great and fortified. It may be that the LORD will be with me, and I shall be able to drive them out as the LORD said. (Joshua 14:10-12)
Joshua has divided the land for the different tribes. He commands them to further their conquest. Caleb comes forward to claim his share of inheritance.
Caleb begins with praise that the Lord has kept him alive. There is a purpose yet to be fulfilled. He recalls what God has spoken to Moses while in the wilderness.
Now he is eighty-five and confesses the potential of his strength is as robust as he had been forty-five years ago in engaging warfare.
Caleb claimed the promise of Gods spoken word. except Caleb the son of Jephunneh; he shall see it, and to him and his children I am giving the land on which he walked, because he wholly followed the LORD. (Deuteronomy 1:36) He asked for the mountainous part of the country, the hill country of Judea, in which Hebron, Debir were. He asked for a tough ground as giants, called Anakims, dwelt in the mountainous country, and their fortified cities.
Caleb confidence of Gods presence and power be with him, placing his confidence therein, He was not presumptuous but relying on the promises, presence, plan and power of God by faith. But My servant Caleb, because he has a different spirit in him and has followed Me fully, I will bring into the land where he went, and his descendants shall inherit it. (Numbers 14:24)
Calebs decisive action as he relies on Gods presence and realised Gods power. Whatever our position and transition we are in God is in the process of fulfilling our destiny promised us. God's timing is perfect, never too early or too late as Caleb knew what's to wait while moving on through the wilderness, the conquests and distributions of the land. God can use us regardless of one's age or ability. Favour followed faithfulness.
Prayer: Father God, You have kept me alive. Given me the potential. Recalled the power of the in dwelling of the Holy Spirit through the years of serving. I confess I am as strong as I was before and through Christ I can do all to fulfil that which You have called me to accomplish in this life.
